Hey recently I got an offer from SpaceX, which is quite lower than I expected (I lowered my expectation when I started interview).#interview #hardware #engineer I searched a bit but did not find a lot of negotiation experience at SpaceX, can someone give me some advice on this? I don’t want to push too hard but at least sweeten the deal. AND the recruiter seems not to be very helpful, when I questioned the numbers, the recruiter just said a specific team is working on this. The recruiter did not even say “I will try to get a sign-on for you” ———————— Updated It’s Hawthorn site, mechanical position. And they did not change the offer as people suggested. YOE: 6 Years (but I changed my industry 2 times) TC: 240k
numbers would help
My apology, just added
TC or gtfo
What program/team/role? Yoe? TC? Any additional info would be nice to have as we try and help you here
Starlink, manufacturing, looks I received level 2 offer, no sign on, very medium values.
SpaceX doesn’t want people who are in it just for current share value as TC.
That’s what happens when thousands of new grads think it would be a cool place to work.
🤷dunno, it’s a cool place to start, but it’s also reality.
What's the offer? I am at Axiom Space now if you need a referral here DM me. I interviewed at SpaceX in past. While i didn't get their offer but was told by friends the base is not high (non IT role)
Thanks buddy! Relocation is not an option to me currently, but still appreciate your kindness. Yes, it’s fairly low, even compare to some medical/EV company, I got several offer two years ago, and I would not say SpaceX stands out by looking at the numbers, and WLB make it even worse.
> I got several offer two years ago Buddy that was a whole different economy.
meta only gives you 240k tc? Seems low
For 6 YOE in manufacturing that’s quite good. SpaceX paybands are competitive with other manufacturers in the industry and then you get a lot of equity on top.
I wasted some years in different industry, so I am not qualified for large TC.
You didn’t provide enough details to comment. I’m not even sure what role you’re applying to. What is the job location?
mechanical, hawthorn.
Position and offer numbers pls
Mechanical TC 150k
From what I know this is slightly above average for a spacex level 2 mechanical engineer here (I assume your offer is ~110k salary and 40k stock per year). SpaceX levels are unusual for other companies in the same industry. For example phds come in at level 2, and after level 2 it’s Senior. 5 years ago I came in with an MS for 85k salary + 20k stock/year. My TC this year is like 270k due to appreciation and past stock refreshers, as a single data point for you. This year is my peak TC though - 2024 TC will be lower. It never hurts to ask, but I’d believe the HR person if they say they won’t budge. I personally think it’s decent.
No information on role or job location.. tough to answer. But your level mainly depends on your interview performance and yoe. I got a very competitive offer from spacex recently for a Sr. Role in hardware. I have 6 yoe my field of expertise.
As I understand it, SpaceX did offer a competitive package for high level position, senior role certainly fits it. Thanks for your help.
Yes I have similar experience with tesla, No use just move on
Yeah, I guess it will end the similar range, I gave the recruiter some paystub to support me though.
