I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, I've seen a consistently low performing engineer disappearing from Amazon, I thought he got piped, but what do I know he has ended up in Google. How's that possible? Is the bar that low in the Seattle's office now? Is it a good time to chase easy Google interview?
Yeah I’ve noticed this too, hiring bar and questions asked for Google Seattle and NY and some EU locations seems a lot lower from anecdotes I’ve noticed. Doesn’t make sense considering they should pull global talent but w/e.
google nyc is the hardest hands down
Anecdotally I’ve found Google India / Japan to be the most difficult
Maybe they’re good at leetcode but suck at working. Being good at interviews doesn’t necessarily make you a good coworker, etc.
Have you get into Google if bar is that low?
Day-to-day work performance has no correlation to interview performance. Also performance in one team/project has no correlation to performance in another. Other than the one instance of a low performer moving from Amazon to Google what other things have you seen that are unbelievable?
The c-beams of course!
Also he could be low performing because he dosent like his current work environment. If you arent interested in something you're gonna seem low performing.
You don’t know the location until after the onsite, so this question is irrelevant???
I was thinking that with opening of new offices in SLU Google is looking to stuff them and the higher demand for the engineers with the constant supply of the engineers is driving the bar down. Do you think that's something that could be happening?
No, headcount is really tight right now and there are dozens of people waiting to even get the chance to join a team
It's funny there's no body from G in this post
Maybe they were low performing because Amazon.
I'll be happy for that engineer to be successful in G, or any future adventures. I'm wondering if that's something that happens frequently, or is it a one-off oddity.
it happens pretty often where ppl hate their company/job and decide to tank the job to focus on leetcode. i did it while i was at ibm
Google has 100,000 employees now. With Google Cloud planning to hire 10,000 more, the bar has to go low - it is also good as not everyone will be working on cool stuff. Cloud is enterprise business and average engineers will do good - smart ones don’t want to work on making MySQL run on cloud.
Could be that those low performers were only performing badly cause they were leetcoding so much.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fucking leetcode 🐒 🐒🐒
