Gave an amazing interview, recruiter comes back gives me a verbal offer: ~340 K. I tell him that I would like them to reconsider and give another 2500 RSU. Recruiter asks the hiring manager and then tells me it is an exception and they are working on it. A few days later they come back with a number 100K less citing that the budget approval manager had only this budget for an IC4 position. Has that happened with anyone else?#oracle #OCI #Lowballed #fakeoffer #disappointment#offer #tech #offer

Everything seems great with this guy, except basic attraction. What to do? My friends say it’s no big deal
Which team?
OCI
I mean which team in OCI?
Are you sure you heard it right first time? Was it 340 or 240? Normally this doesn't happen. What is your work exp? Is it in Bay area?
I have the numbers from the recruiter in the email .... both of them ...
Your work exp and location?
Hopefully.... but it was truly disappointing
BTW, oracle recruiter are not supposed to giver verbal offer in writing. Recruiter doing it violates oracle policy and deserved to get fired.
I mean I would not wish that upon anyone ... but is that even the point ? I believe it was as much of a surprise for him as it was for me. The point I believe is he must have given those numbers on some vectors which were then completely disregarded by the budget owner. I am just astonished on the disconnect there .... he kept assuring me even if they don’t accept the exception you are on for the baseline numbers he gave which was ~340K.
It seems recruiter worked without talking to hiring manager or there was a confusion regarding the level. He offered top of IC4 for IC3
Or hiring manager is new not familiar with current hiring.
That’s so unfortunate for the candidate which would be me in this case.
I agree, someone dropped the ball and candidate should not suffer.
Salary bands changed recently and IC4 is capped slightly below $300k. Above and exception is required. Manager won’t go to bat for you if you didn’t completely wow your interviewers.
As a matter of fact I did .... it was the team members all the way to the recruiter who were ecstatic about it ... I mean it seems like I am bragging but they had nothing but good things to say after each interview.
I find that hard to believe. How can somebody be ecstatic about LC ability? Like “you solved FizzBuzz faster than anyone has ever done before”?
If you really want the higher salary, just say you have a competing offer from Facebook. It’s better than just walking away.
I actually did have one really good offer from a startup ... that I quoted and used as a leverage to negotiate... they just kept assuring me and then come with these horrible numbers.
Startup usually never have a good offer its all papermoney unless this startup is well established
Also verbal offers are not final. Took 2.5 months for mine to be approved last year. Some get rescinded. Taking 3-4 months this year
That’s a trust deficit .... so does that mean one should not trust Oracle on the verbal offers and keep looking even after telling them that one would join ?
This isn't just Oracle
I had a similar experience OP. New grad offer was ~112k Tc. Could be related to pandemic or millions spent on TikTok deal
What office location / role was this offer for?
Hm low cost of living and not a cloud team?
So what is the final offered TC?
+1
~240 K
