Square IC6

How does IC6 at Square compare to the level at Meta ? Is it equivalent of E6 or is it more towards E5 ? What’s the TC at L6 ? Levels.fyi have very varying data. What’s the comp after the layoffs ? Also, How difficult is it to transition from IC to EM at Square ? Are they very supportive ? Blind Tax - 400k

L6 at square is like E5.5 at meta. I joined in HCOL about a year ago, 475k + 50k signing bonus, which seems to be standard but not sure if bands have been lowered since then. Idk why you’d want to be a manager here. A lot of our layoffs and reorgs have been focused on “flattening the org structure”. Being an IC feels safer

This salary range is about right. However, some L6s were at staff level (or experienced Eng) and most at Senior SWE...which is why you might see a wide range in salary. Agree on the flattening the org structure comment as well.

Yeah l6 is a wide band.

I would say it maps to E5, i agree that it is currently not a good idea to come if you intend on switching to management

They were supportive of transition previously but now based on earning call. They will keep the org # hires at 12k for years to come. And will remove redundancy and excess middle management so it’s not gonna be like Amazon or Meta where manager build empire & coast

IC 6 maps to a seasoned senior engineer IC 5 maps to relatively new senior engineer or high performing SDE 2 who is about to get promo

Rumor has it that non SWE EMs are going to be eliminated. As in EMs will be required to be SWE as well.
