Hi people, I interviewed with a FAANG company in January and finished all rounds by mid-March end. It went well and the recruiter contacted me saying they liked me and would be willing to extend an offer! Everything was going well until the hiring manager changed and I had to take one more interview with the new hiring manager. He asked me about when I can star working. So I am currently a student and graduate in May. So in mid-march it was still 2+ months until I graduate and could join them full-time. The new hiring manager put me on hold and said that my timeline doesn't align with some projects they have in queue ams would require someone to join sooner. He said they'll continue interviewing candidates and if they don't find anyone in a month then they'll contact me! I felt let down obviously and also angry! But one week later, there was the same job job posting open in a different team and location. So I applied again and got in touch with the new recruiter and hiring manager, explained them what happened before and they didn't mind interviewing me again! But mid through this second interviewing session, the first team who had put me on hold got back to me saying they want to proceed with an offer. The recruiter gave some salary numbers, I negotiated and he said he'll get back to me with new numbers soon! But I hadn't told the second team anything yet, but next day the first team's recruiter contacted me saying that he can see that I am also interviewing with another team in the company. So I just told him "since he had previously told me that they will continue interviewing candidates and will get back to me if they don't find anyone, I wasn't sure if I'd get an offer so I was interviewing at other places and after our conversation yesterday I did let the 2nd team know about what happened and they haven't replied yet'. He then told me that he'll try to get me the best offer he can as soon as possible! So after this call I told the second team about the offer from the first team, and they still are yet to get back. Does this scenario put me in a difficult position or is this good? I'm quite confused and don't know how to deal with this exactly. Should I just cancel the next interview rounds with the 2nd team or keep interviewing? Since it's the same company it's risky to play games 🥴
Well played! They are now competing internally against each other. As long as there is no internal silly policing preventing this I don't see an issue. Also you've acted in good faith and were informing them from the beginning.
Okay, this is reassuring!!
You didn’t do anything wrong. Interviewing with another team after you’ve gotten an offer letter is arguably unethical (although people do it and get away with it), but prior to that you are absolutely free to do so. Congratulations and good luck!
Close one first - get an offer. Focus only on this. Don’t cancel any interviews.
So the first team's recruiter can see when I have Interviews scheduled with the other team. He also tried to contact the recruiter of the team which is weird and invasion of privacy I believe, he's being nosey basically! So if I don't cancel anything then he'll know and I'm afraid that might hamper my offer?
