I have an interview coming up for Lyft L5, their autonomous driving division. Ride aggregators have been having a tough time surviving. Both Uber and Lyft have had layoffs, and Uber is willing to sell its ATG division. Meanwhile, Lyft is still hiring scientists for L5 Should I consider joining Lyft if I get a huge TC bump? TC: £120k YOE: 2
I am not a Lyft insider though interviewed with Lyft L5 and got an offer a while back (late 2018). Lyft L5 in London is based on acquisition of a startup Blue Vision Labs. Lyft L5 has a group in Munich too though o heard that group got affected during these layoffs. Overall TC at Lyft is quite good. As for Lyft L5, they are way behind other self driving car companies and many of the management folks (at that time) didn’t have sufficient domain specific and/or relevant product development experience. In several threads this fact has been supported by several Lyft insiders so perhaps they can pitch in with the latest developments.
Oh great! Did you interview for a research scientist role as well? I have been told I have a phone screen with the head of the group, followed by 4 rounds onsite. Can I DM you asking for some specifics? My main worry is a computer vision round. I don't come from a CV background, so I am mainly worried about that.
What’s your background? Is it more ML? All the roles then were Software Engineers with specific domain focus. I interviewed for a role in Perception team where most of the engineers had background in computer vision. Are you based in London now? I am a bit surprised with them hiring as I know a guy in US from Perception team who was terminated in April.
I'm considering joining soon. Massive bump from amzn. I say go for it. If you can get Lyft you can go anywhere else.
London?
No sorry, I'm in the states
