I had a technical phone screen for Lyft last week. The recruiter said to study leetcode medium and hard. That’s exactly what I did. I get to the interview and they ask me a bullshit API question which definitely was not leetcode. I just got the rejection email. #lyft #tech
Do not trust what the recruiter said. I’ve seen it
I unfortunately learned this the hard way
I would prefer an api question over any medium Leetcode
What do you mean by API question?
Did you have to write an actual api? Or was this on like codepair where they just made you mimic an api with leetcode like logic? Cause that what I got
I needed to write an api that took input from another api and produce a result with a function.
Had a similar position experience with G. They asked me an API design and code whereas I was mentally looking for graph or dp
I had a Waymo interview and they did the same thing, parse logs api then optimize, I did it Python took like 20 mins, obviously you can write it faster but you have to careful not assume, communication is key.
May I know what role was it for? I have a phone screen coming up soon for the FE position.
Back end. I ended up getting another shot and advanced to the on-site interviews. They’re this week
All the best!
I would prefer practical questions too like API. These questions are mostly asked by people who will actually be responsible for the delivery and know the pain of a dev lead. Too bad the HR was the communication break here.
Its not clear from your statement - if you implying you unable to function in a practical world if interviews outside of the LC domain?
I agree! Api development should be your every day work. I would thank them for not asking LC hard questions
i think the issue is that OP feels mislead by recruiter
