Hi, I work in US, traveled back to my home country for 3 months this year, and just realized it makes me become tax resident. Hence I need to pay a lot income tax to my home country. Question: 1. Am I eligible to claim Foreign Tax Credit (FTC) to avoid paying double tax? (I'm a green card holder, still live&work in US, I assume FTC is for US people who work for foreign company and live outside US?) 2. If I claim FTC, will it leads any negative impact? Will my company be notified? Or it'll make my record looks bad when applying citizenship? Thanks! TC 300k #tax #irs #cpa #us #remotework #remote
is your home country Canada?
No, does home country matter in this case? (Curious)
yes because there are treaty between certain countries. You cannot claim a resident in another country while on greencard, that will be negative on your citizenship application I believe
