Who would have more advantage/ be successful in product manager role in tech industry after 5 years down the lane; given both switched/started career as PMs?
10 years software engineer vs MBA fresh grad
Lol then obviously the SWE
But after 5 years both will.have years of PM experience. Would MBA graduate wtih 5yeaes experience can do better than SWE with 5 years experience?
MBA doesn’t provide a direct path to PM at FANG except for Amazon
Google does if you have a technical undergrad degree, just way more competitive than Amazon for fewer spots
Ain't that the fucking truth. I feel my manager at Amazon is eating lead for good luck.
easily the swe
At Amazon, MBA has clear advantage
You'll get different answers from different people. The truth is, it depends. Is it a highly technical product that's mainly software and requires working with super talented engineers? Probably the eng. Is it an enterprise concept that's mostly sales based as the competitive edge and simple technology? Honestly given it's 15 years of industry experience, anything you learn in an MBA could have been already learned in industry. But maybe the MBA come out ahead here. The true advantage of an MBA is network. This is helpful for landing the job, but in most cases, not for doing it. Depending on what you want in life, MBA can still be worth it though.
How many years of experience does the software engineer have? Does the MBA have any experience building anything or is he or she just out of school?
