Wanted to share my experience on META PIP. I was less than 12 months in the organization. When I joined the return to office rules were not enforced thus everyone was working from home. The culture in my team at meta was that new joiners will pick up the work they want to represent. I observed that only stuff that didn’t matter was left for people who were new. Anyways 3 months after my joining my hiring manager had a mid year review and said that I needed to connect more with people and did well over all in my job. So I networked hard within the company. When it was time for my annual review I received a Meets Some. That meant no salary increase and that I would be put on a PIP. The review had comments of projects that I had not been involved in and even work I had done was downplayed. I realized that the manger was not honest with me and somehow I wasn’t liked by him even though I worked hard. I spoke to HR post my discussion with my manager and HR stated that as I hadn’t completed a year and got “MS” thus I wasn’t eligible for a team transfer. She stated that PIP would take some time to be put on paper however if I decided I want to leave I will be offered a severance package like all laid off employees. I accepted the severance and left the organization. My advice to those in my situation - it’s not you it’s just a bad fit. Meta does not have a lot of PIP because they try to manage you out before going through the paper trail. This year was brutal at Meta given the year of efficiency. I heard mangers were forced to put most of the team in MM or MS if they didn’t want them. This was confirmed to me by a VP at Meta. I got stellar peer performance feedback from all the members I worked with however if you have a bad manager then there is no future at the company. They don’t value the peer feedback as well. Favoritism is at its best. I saw people who did nothing who got an exceeds expectations because they had good connections with the manager or other team manager. Managers coached employees to write PSC’s by lying about profits that they impacted. For those they didn’t like there was absolutely no help. While Meta is supposed to be extremely tech savvy the inside workings of meta in various teams was extremely manual with playbooks still being documented in word docs etc.. I hope this post helps someone like me who felt completely lost for being treated that way. TC: 450 k (level : IC 5)
No accelerated vesting - 4 months pay + holidays were pay out at one time.
I’m happy you got out of such a toxic place! I’m not one to talk as we have similar practices but the longer you stay in these situations especially with a bad manager who doesn’t like you the more stressed you are always looking over your shoulder and far away from doing your best work. Seems like you’re now at MS and enjoy it?
Was the 4 months tied to any formula? Like based on your length of service? Also, was this in 2023?
Tldr
Use metamate
I’m guessing someone thought you were too expensive, given what your RSU price probably was. Going through something similar. The offenses are laughably mild and ambiguous.
Few understand ☝️
Happened to me.
Man you are describing my first 12 months at Meta. I got MM my first year, didn’t matter the impact, the hours, the feedback from senior business partners. I was told I’m just not performing at my level. Then I got reorged in Jan to a new team, new manager, new role. Although at first new manager thought I’m truly MM, but after a month of him observing my work, he trusted me and now I’m doing much better. Yes, 💯 most of the time it’s not you at Meta, it’s fit, crappy manager, year of efficiency, etc.
Sorry you had to go through this. Does TC 450k still make sense. Did your RSUs vest? Otherwise, it is just the base salary you received during the 12 months.
Obviously it vests quarterly
Oh I thought only after the first year it vests quarterly.
rooting for you, OP ❤️
Good luck, OP. Wish you the best. I'm still praying for my first severance.
If you want to continue with same culture come to Atlassian. CTO is working day and night same culture to Atlassian and ex Meta employees are preffered here.
Any reason why CTO shouldn't work day and night? Hackers and bad actors don't sleep so cto shouldn't be sleeping too...
Lol the CTO is single handedly fighting off hackers
Were you there for more than 6 months? When the PSC time how many months of work did you present?
Around 10 months
Oh shit I misread. I thought you wrote MM. MS is very fucked up, does the manager not giving early feedback? How was the mid cycle check in?
What was the severance? Did it include accelerated vesting?
