I’m seeing a lot of posts saying MFE programs are not helpful to become a quant. Anyone working in top quant firms like citadel, two sigma, renaissance etc without a phd but with masters degree from top ranked school? I see a lot of ms students go to an investment bank for derivative pricing but I’d like work at a hedge fund.

You don’t need a PhD to work at Citadel, Jane Street, etc. You can be a quant developer or trader with just a bachelors. These roles pay pretty well (250K+ bachelors grad). But for quant research roles, yes, you generally need a top PhD.
Thank you for your response! Can you become a PM after few years of being a developer or trader?
Trader definitely yes. Quant dev to PM is more rare. However, I’ve seen many quant developers become traders.
