(Software Engineer Intern) Optiver vs Meta (renege optiver)

Hi. Currently a junior in college. This will be my final internship. Was wondering which internship is stronger on my resume. Also, in terms of long term career, would you say quant swe or big tech swe is better?

Quant dev for a couple of years until you hit the ceiling, then on to big tech for a longer career ladder.

They cut 75-80% of Optiver interns. Even after taking on the grads, they cut another 15-25% in the first year. Assuming you get cut at some stage, which looks better on the CV? Where are your interests?

That’s a lot. Is the 25% cut also for experienced hires?

It can be hire and fire. It is the DNA of the company, the people there longest seem like cockroaches who know how to survive nuclear war, rather than a bunch of clever Jeff Dean types. The environment selects for something other than pure competency.

If your resume is already decent (i.e you have well known prior internsips and/or you at a top school) Optiver is fine. Otherwise, in a vaccuum, Optiver SWE resume value is pretty much 0 in the tech industry and I would recommend you go to Meta unless you are dead set on trading. It has decent resume value in the trading space, though in my experience other top tier firms are still viewed slightly more favorably.
