Why is Expedia a tech company?
I see that Expedia is a well respected tech company and an option that is frequently mentioned here. Why aren’t others such as booking.com, Kayak, Priceline, orbits, Hotwire not considered tech companies? Why don’t they have the same reputation? What makes Expedia special? I'll give it a shot "Tech has come to mean any company that uses technology to undercut operating costs of legacy competitors or provide a differentiated customer experience. It doesn't just mean companies that build innovative technologies, but companies whose use of technology is their key competitive edge compared to competitors" So like Intel wouldn't be a tech company but Nvidia would because Nvidia's differentiated in AI hardware.
They are all glorified travel companies that let you book tickets online. They are not doing any innovation in tech to call themselves ‘tech’ companies

It depends. I have heard that Expedia treats their employees well in terms of WLB and the work culture. To me that is the most important thing and makes it a desired place to work.
Can vouch for that feedback. Although the pay is shit, the WLB and work culture is general is pretty good. Worked there for a couple of years.
You can call yourself whatever you want. Even JPMC refers to themselves as a tech company.
Also, Expedia treats SDE as a profit centre.
