I have an offer from google infrastructure teams. How is the general engineering culture at Google? I heard the code reviews are painful(to the level of being detrimental to productivity) and mostly engineers work in silos(very little interactions among them). Again all of this is hearsay so if you could share your experience, that would be great!
Can you be more specific as to what PA and infrastructure of what ? Is it cloud ? Regarding code reviews, it really varies across teams. If it's a team to which lots of external people contribute code, review process is usually stringent. Being in a infrastructure team doesn't necessarily mean very strict code reviews.
I for one appreciated google's code review process (and readability requirements). I've seen what happens to large code bases when there are no, or shitty, code reviews.
If this is a SETI position and you were a developer before, it's not good for your career
Why not?
This is in the search infrastructure
Yes I have heard that search infra does not do new stuff anymore. You would be a cog in a giant machine. But dont fret, you can always change you team in 18 months.
Google infrastructure team == SDET. Do not join unless you're a brainless SDET.
There's a difference between SETI role and SWE role that works in infra stuff. You're thinking of SETI
Enjoy writing shitty build scripts because you failed your SDE interview at Google? Then go ahead and prepare to degrage slowly.
