I am a software engineer with 16 years of experience in IT. Lately, I've been feeling a bit stuck and unsure about where to go next in my career. I hold a bachelor's degree in engineering and an MBA. Do you think it's worth pursuing a master's or PhD at this point in my career? or any other suggestions?
No unless you wanna go into AI/ML. Just jump ship to another job and uplevel 🤷♂️
16 yoe ? And you want to do MSE or PhD? Damn, what are you smoking mate?
Nope
Nope, does not make sense for career progression - only for the sake of expanding your horizon...
Why did you get an MBA instead of an MS?
You can do a PhD if you want to get into teaching profession or research. If you do a MS, you will have to start from scratch in the US. Do your research and then decide.
With an MBA become a technical product/program manager if you want a change.
Money/ Knowledge? What do you seek? Again, textbook or practical? Why don’t you start going where the money takes you and then introspect? You will either hate it or love it. I’m sure you know yourself best.
MBA is probably the best addition to skill set. Not sure what a masters in CS would teach you that you either don’t already know or simply don’t need.
