I recently received an internal MSFT offer for a team transfer from Europe to a high cost of living city in North America The offer is a copy-paste of my current EU package (just different currency). Am I being massively lowballed? I was expecting about 2x... is this normal for MSFT? How much can I negotiate? Do they not change salary based on location? I'm kinda disappointed, it seemed like a cool team, but can I even survive on this? EDIT: This is NOT Seattle/Bay/NYC (but COL is close) EDIT2: Vancouver YOE: 2 as SWE New MSFT offer base/stocks (USD): 65/10 Current MSFT EU base/stocks (USD): 65/10 #microsoft #msft #salaries #career #europe
Where in the US?
Lmao business majors make more than this. This mad disrespectful 😭
I wish they had just rejected me from the interview, it feels strange
Is the base salary 65k usd?
Yes, rounded to 5k
That can't possibly be a real offer. Ask to verify if the 65k number is accurate and not a mistake.
Yeah you better pray that they forgot the 1 in front of the 65
I have rounded the numbers to the nearest 5k...but yes, this is real
This is below intern pay in San Francisco 😭 what “hcol” city are they talking about??
For some perspective, I joined msft out of college 15 years ago in Seattle. My base pay was 76k and my stock was 30k
Ok, I thought I was going crazy... I feel if they think my interviews were bad, they would not make an offer?
Right. I don’t know how the pay between Canada and the US compares. Levels.fyi is a reasonable benchmark
They want to see if you fall for it
LMFAO
Bro just nut up and say that the offer is completely insane and cite some data from Robert half or some shit or a COL calculator
Almost sounds like a mistake.
It's exactly my (low) EU package converted to a different currency, otherwise I would think it was a mistake
That makes me think more it might be a mistake. Like an oversight. I’d reach out and legitimately ask if the comp is a mistake. Cause it’s insultingly low.
