I’m approaching my cliff and lately lost my joy at work. Typical building and running enterprise software. TC: $300k I’m curious about trying out retail tech. Found some engineering job postings at Starbucks. Do you think it’s a career killer / dead end?
Depends on the role and TC. If the role has larger scope and TC is better - why not? You can always go back or to some FAANG if you don't like it.
I disagree with you. I know a few folks personally and you can find some stories here on Blind where a person went to a no name company for a senior manager/architect role and then came back to FAANG to a level up.
Okay, I don't know specifically for Starbucks, but in general, better position in a smaller company may be worth it. You definitely need to watch out for yourself: what your daily tasks are, are you growing, etc.
Apply to some other companies as well. There's many smaller companies out there that are known for great wlb.
get an offer and then decide.
It really depends on the team and the problem you are trying to solve. Do you know which team?
Just for education, why does retail tech seem less appealing?
