I'm eager to hear what you think about the new MacBook Pro M3 Max, especially when comparing it to the older Intel Macs. I've been a longtime user of Intel Macs, and I'm intrigued to find out if the Apple Silicon Macs truly offer a substantial upgrade. The M3 Max seems a tad thicker and heavier, reminiscent of the 2012 MacBook Pro. I'm particularly keen on its performance with Python and PyTorch. While I know this platform might not offer entirely unbiased reviews, I value your honest opinion.
Is this a serious question? Even the lowest end Macbook Air M1 is an upgrade over Intel Macs. Okay, you can get more ram if required, but the cpu is speedy.
M1 and newer are a completely different ballgame compared to Intel Macs. Only go M3 if you do very CPU intensive work where saving seconds is worth it. M1 and M2 series are both still solid.
M1 ran circles around Intel Macs. It’s going to be very hard to move away from a Mac in the future, Apple is truly innovating.
I use a (2021) mbp 16 specialist and it's great. But I got it because Google was willing to pay $3k for an ssh terminal. I'm genuinely curious - what do people do on their box that's so CPU intensive? I haven't worked at a company where code is compiled on a laptop in probably 15 years.
I compile go code on my laptop every day at work
use the devpod😂.
Any of the M chips blow the Intel Macs out of the water. Newer form factor is a little more squared off than the intel/M1 MBPs but way slimmer than the older MBPs, I like it. Still lighter than the older ones too.
Thinking of buying refurbished m1/m2 with trade in and save 1k
The Apple silicon MacBook pros are masterpieces. It will absolutely crush almost any task but I would not count on running intensive ML tasks locally. If that is important you need a workstation desktop with an actual GPU or have to purchase some cloud compute
The shittiest M family chipset, destroys the strongest Intel chips on MacBooks, let alone M3 Max. If you are coming from Intel, you would't feel much different aesthetically, but performance, night and day difference. Not even comparable
Incredible step up from Intel Macs. Inclusion of hdmi and MagSafe is also amazing. Never had anyone buy the M1 Pro and not like it
