Mafia like taxes

Just finished filing taxes and I can’t believe that more than 1 dollar in every 3 I make I have to hand it over to the government. Most of the infrastructure maintenance comes from targeted sales taxes - so, gas tax for roads, for instance. We don’t receive nearly the value - there is no way that the government provides 6 digit dollars worth of services. Then the gall of some people to say that we need to pay our “fair share” and pay even more. I don’t see anything more unfair than the current tax regime. How have we normalized this theft? It’s like the mafia. Seriously, don’t you find it ridiculous that the government takes such a huge cut? And for absolutely no value provided. I’d rather that the government did very minimal things and I can just pay for what I want. I am sure I can get what I want for less than what I pay in taxes. TC ~1.2M

There are complicated ways to reduce your tax burden but many of them are difficult as a high paid W2 employee.

Blame old people that’s where all of our tax money goes

Thanks voting for Democrats 😆

Trump took away itemization. That was a blow.

Those aircraft carriers, F35s, arms and ammunition aren't gonna fund themselves

Amazon WMcd28 Mar 31

If I'm paying so much money to fund a war, I want to see streams of the bombings and warfare in real time. I paid for that explosion, they owe me footage of it. Don't want to see it from any news source. Also they should shout out my name when they drop a bomb funded by my taxes.

Cvent JbDB58 Mar 31

Way more goes to old people and poor people. Defense is a clear mandate of the government that only the government can do effectively and efficiently, taking care of people who should have taken care of themselves better… not so much

Chime g99i Mar 31

The US infrastructure is crumbling. Where are they spending all the money, and Warren wants to collect more tax in the name of fair share. It’s insane, with this amount of tax, healthcare should be at least cheaper if not free

ex-Salesforce G1Gjmy Mar 31

The vast majority goes to social security, medicare/medicaid, and the dod. Everything else gets the remainder. As a side note, tons of research has shown the US method of Healthcare provides the highest expense and worst outcomes for the aggregate.

Oracle fanglaidme Mar 31

It is a mafia just a legal one… if you like your way of life and want to protect it, either fund your own private military and an island (unless you have tons of wealth your meta pay wont cut it) However if you pay the government 30%, they actually have armed forces that will domestically preserve your way of life… to me it sounds like the best possible deal… before complaining consider the alternative… Just know you have a life that billions(outside the us) value and will fight you for it… Maybe 30% suddenly doesn’t feel too expensive??

Meta ch2ru OP Mar 31

Defense is insanely bloated. America could reduce budget by 75% and no will dare to attack us. Entitlements is something that should be brought down to 0. Tax should be based on usage, flat dollar amount - no reason why some should fund for others, when everyone receives the same benefits.

Oracle fanglaidme Mar 31

Yeah problem with this is… the moment someone who should pay taxes doesn’t, you have to fight an invasion… I’d much rather pay 1/3rd… I do agree with you when you get 500k tc it should be meta’s obligation to pay the taxes that let it employ you and that must not come out of your pay.. maybe some day we’ll actually have regulation that taxes businesses

Federal spending is mainly on healthcare, supporting old people, supporting the poor, and the military. Supporting most of these things is pretty bipartisan, and unlikely to change no matter who is elected. There is also a relatively small chunk of change for things like infrastructure, the post office, FEMA, NASA, and various other federal agencies that people fight intensely about. But changes here won’t have much impact on federal spending or taxes due to how small they are.

Databricks mfiV42 Mar 31

Supporting old people and the poor bipartisan ? Lol. One of the party wants to kill ACA and any kind of support whatsoever.

Meta hJxv78 Mar 31

The chances of the GOP repealing the ACA has basically gone down to zero. They still rant nonsensically about it (since it was their idea in the first place) but it’s not going anywhere even if they do come back into power in the next election.

Only reason you're in a position to make that much money is because of the existing infrastructure to allow everyone else to travel to their jobs and to spend the money that funds your company's revenue streams to be able to pay you. You dumbass.

Meta ch2ru OP Mar 31

Read it again dip💩 Infrastructure usually gets funded by other means. Also, my gripe is that the taxes are more than value rendered. So not arguing for no taxes but lower taxes.

Meta hJxv78 Mar 31

Federal money does still cover a fair amount of infrastructure. The interstate highway way system (partially but not totally covered by the gas tax), many bridges, airports, naval ports, and other electrical and water infrastructure are funded at the federal level. This is not large compared with federal spending on healthcare or old people, but it is still substantial.

GoDaddy godcoderx Mar 31

Get an NQDC or other tax scheme to defer income and pay less taxes in top bracket. 😄 About 40% of the US federal budget is taxes to pay for current and past military, when you factor in benefits that veterans receive. This is a fact of the country's power and won't change unless we demand NATO countries stop paying a free hundred soldiers and pretending they can stop a Russian invasion without us footing 99% of the bill NATO scaMs the US. Another 25% goes to old people and poor people (but the lions share is poor old (WHITE) people). The freeloaders are mostly poor old people - they will continually vote to enslave young workers to pay for their shit. Their family also doesn't want to pay for their shit, so they are also eager to vote and pin the taxes on.... Productive young workers. The greatest irony of all this is that California pays a hefty percentage of taxes to support all this, yet as a state LOVES welfare and social programs. The people who benefit - poor old white people, LOVE voting Republican. It's hilarious. No one understands economics and the concept that productive people should pay the least taxes. The leeches should be paying more.
