In your org how easy would it be to get at least some level of access to a report’s email? Maybe it’s a question you need answered (did they exchange messages with this person in this date range), or maybe it’s full blown access. Does reporting chain matter? The question also may well best be posed to the email admins. What’s protocol if a VP asks you a question about someone else’s email? Nothing shady behind the question, just things I ponder on a Friday eve 😌 Tc 12 ethereum
What about teams/slack?
Not easy either
I scoped the question only to email because I’m assuming other messaging apps would follow the same protocols.
People might think as you rise in rank you have more power over HR/IT/Ops but my experience has been they are locked out the same as entry level new hire. I thought for sure my CTO in last job could override some IT equipment stuff but he said nope, no way around it. YMMV, probably pretty different depending on company size.
The more senior, the more savvy. A savvy exec will not subject himself/herself to questioning/suspicion by making a request like this unless there’s serious concern of wrongdoing and - still in that case - the communication in question will be substantiated by Legal/Compliance, not by the manager.
In mom and pop’s companies, possible. In a major public company, this would be fantasy.
Not easy
