Back in 2004, most voters didn't know anything about Manmohan Singh. He was the only PM in our history who wasn't elected by the public. This is totally undemocratic. He didn't have to face the public in a democracy. Am I right? He was selected and not elected PM. What do you think?
Who cares. He did more to help India develop than anyone else. Modi is now reaping the rewards.
Lol
We aren't discussing that. It's your personal view on performance. I think otherwise. It's another topic. Let's not get into that here and stick to the topic.
You know how indian democracy works? Even if BJP wins, someone else could be made PM instead of Modi. We vote for our local MP and not for PM.
India is not a presidential democracy, so either is fine. MPs elect PM and not people directly. Having said that, I do personally think a PM elect should face elections.
Who cares. Can you do anything about it ?
Just discussing. In a way, nobody from the tech world and on blind could do a single thing in politics except what we vote for. It's just a discussion. You can ignore it if you don't like it.
If you or anybody can’t do anything about it, what good it does to discuss about it. I know i can ignore it, but if everyone does ignore about the things we can’t control we’d all be happy.
Indian Electoral System 101 - You vote for your constituency and elect your representative. Those representatives elect their leader. What infact is ‘undemocratic’ is - people not even knowing their constituency’s candidate’s name or what they stand for and still voting for them because of their pre-declared leader.
The system allows. I know that. People didn't know who will be PM back in 2004. Ideally you're right that people vote for local MP candidates but in general most vote for the PM face. There is a difference between ideal and reality.
I feel it’s more problematic that MPs can ask for votes in the name of their pre-selected candidate without any accountability of their own. They don’t need to address their past work or their future vision. These jokers would then go ahead and vote for passing the laws which will impact every indian.
PMs are not elected in a coalitionary government system
That's why I made this post. Isn't it undemocratic? Maybe it's allowed in India. Don't you think it shouldn't be allowed? A PM has to face the public again via voting based on how he performed. Should we stop this selection of a PM who couldn't be voted directly by the public.
You think Modi faces public? What was the last unscripted question he faced?
