Preparing for a manufacturing Engineer role in EV space. Never did a lot of manufacturing role but hiring manager wanted to see if I would be a good fit. Any tips on what all to prepare? @argo.ai
I've been a manufacturing engineer in automotive for a long time and it's a love hate relationship. WFH didn't exist even during the pandemic. There can be a lot of paid OT so although pay can lag it can be lucrative. Seems like there are opportunities out there but these jobs are not flexible at all. I have lost some of my soft skills required for more corporate positions so that can also make transitioning some day more challenging. With that all being said focus on quality, personal accountability, and continuous improvement. Operations and machine operators are your customers and focusing on improvements that cut scrap, reduce cycle times, and improve quality will be your focus. If you can move to advanced manufacturing engineering or project engineer as soon as possible. The operations experience is very important to cut your teeth, but developing new processes and launching them is more interesting and better for your career flexibility and development.
