I sold all my weed stocks immediately after seeing this news.

The ban may not only target Canadians. It says, “Already, marijuana investors from other countries, such as Israel, has been denied entry into the US.”

Now I’m worried sick someday the custom’ll find out I held weed stocks in the past. My status is H1b.

Heads-up to my visa holder friends.

Does anyone know if CBP pursues past investment in weed stocks? BTW, I had about $5000. I figure if they want to find out, they will find out. I have to report my stock sales in tax return.

Only selling and possessing marijuana is illegal federally. Please show me which law explicitly states owning stocks that are publicly traded on NYSE is illegal? Trumptards make up their own laws and ignore the existing law if they don't like.

That’s absurd. Even if you hold S&P500 it includes marijuana stocks. What are you going to do? Are ETFs ok? If so buy pharmaceuticals focused ETFs or even marijuana focused ETFs. They can’t enforce things like this.

Intent is also absurd. My intent is to double my money but not to buy pot as a product - anything wrong? No. What if I looked at the EPS or growth history of listed companies on NYSE and bought a few using ticker symbols based off of that without knowing they’re pot companies? Intent is not enforceable.

Edit: looking at the wording of the law, you risk being banned only if you possess US marijuana company stock, they will have to claim you might be engaged in trafficking. That’s the only way you can get banned via investments.

Just pure madness if it is true. Lots of marijuana stocks are trading in NYSE and NASDAQ. Are they going to close NYSE and NASDAQ?

But the stock exchanges did! Maybe they claim the companies are legal under the law of the state where they are located. They are money whores anyway.

If citizens invest in these stocks they could be prosecuted in the future (almost zero chance they would do it to so many people). If non citizens do it they can also be expelled or denied entry. Maybe it's a trick to reduce future immigration :-)

There are at least 15 American companies that work in the weed industry and that are listed in the exchanges. There are lot of companies that are researching on medical marijuana. It's ridiculous and beyond stupidity to categorize a person based on a stock that he/she buys. Constellation brands that produces Corona just invested $4b on pot companies. So is Corona going to be banned?

I'm all for this immigration is a privilege and not a right thing that all bring upon. But be sensible in that. Instead of time and money being spent on this, there are much ways of "protecting" your borders like Punish people who hire illegal immigrants. There are much better things to do for the country than this.

And stock exchanges do not earn any money. So they have no incentives to list illegal stocks.

Is shorting considered okay? I bought puts of cgc last month and made couple thousand. Is this a violation too?

That’s such a long shot that I can say owning NYSE or exchange stock itself facilities their efficient pricing, and so any investor of NYSE is a trafficker. And even this wouldn’t be as long a shot as you outlined. I’d say that’s not a risk at all.

Dude - it seems you have a vested interest in keeping folks from investing in Pot stocks. Are you shorting it yourself?!?
