I sold all my weed stocks immediately after seeing this news. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/09/13/canada-weed-pot-border-783260 The ban may not only target Canadians. It says, “Already, marijuana investors from other countries, such as Israel, has been denied entry into the US.” Now I’m worried sick someday the custom’ll find out I held weed stocks in the past. My status is H1b. Heads-up to my visa holder friends. Does anyone know if CBP pursues past investment in weed stocks? BTW, I had about $5000. I figure if they want to find out, they will find out. I have to report my stock sales in tax return.
So much for the "Freedom" that Americans are preaching all over the world.
Canada will ban you from entering their country if you have prior DUIs, assault charges, or anything else they deem unworthy for entry. It's funny how you guys try to twist this into an anti American or anti Trump attack
Sure -but Canada doesn’t trumpet it’s supposed “freedom” and “land of the free” bla bla
Just pure madness if it is true. Lots of marijuana stocks are trading in NYSE and NASDAQ. Are they going to close NYSE and NASDAQ?
Trump is going to sign an executive order to ban pot stock from being listed on NYSE and NASDAQ. Lol
It doesn't matter. Immigrants have near zero rights until they enter a country. Whatever benefit they are given is due to moral / PR / reciprocal reasons. No other country would defend its citizens who are returned or expelled from US due to drug related concerns.
Guns and ammo investors should be banned in rest of the world
No, turd. Just like nuclear weapons being a deterrent, if not for guns we’d be living in a very violent world today.
Dumbassery really knows no bounds when one doesn't realize that there are more countries at peace with no guns than with guns.
Is shorting considered okay? I bought puts of cgc last month and made couple thousand. Is this a violation too?
Shorting is opposite of financing drug trafficking though. You’re pushing prices lower and making them lose money.
That’s such a long shot that I can say owning NYSE or exchange stock itself facilities their efficient pricing, and so any investor of NYSE is a trafficker. And even this wouldn’t be as long a shot as you outlined. I’d say that’s not a risk at all.
That’s absurd. Even if you hold S&P500 it includes marijuana stocks. What are you going to do? Are ETFs ok? If so buy pharmaceuticals focused ETFs or even marijuana focused ETFs. They can’t enforce things like this.
Intent is also absurd. My intent is to double my money but not to buy pot as a product - anything wrong? No. What if I looked at the EPS or growth history of listed companies on NYSE and bought a few using ticker symbols based off of that without knowing they’re pot companies? Intent is not enforceable. Edit: looking at the wording of the law, you risk being banned only if you possess US marijuana company stock, they will have to claim you might be engaged in trafficking. That’s the only way you can get banned via investments.
