I’ve worked in banking for some years now but now I want to direct my career towards Communications (journalism or media). Would a master really help me? Any advice?
I have a Masters in Marketing Communications and I’m not sure it’s helped or just been a blip on my resume ... i think you have to think about your career goal and see if it really necessary... only regret for me are the student loans
Absolutely not worth it. You’ll already be taking a big pay cut jumping into journalism, why pay to educate yourself before that cut
Don’t waste your time or your money. As a former journalist now in comms the only thing that matters is on the ground experience. Plus, the landscape evolves incredibly fast now that whatever you learn in school will likely not be applicable by the time you are working.
I did the Comms@Syracuse master's program. Great program, but have yet to see the pay increase. Holding strong for a VP position, but it only will help for Advertising or Public Relations. Journalism is going through a rebirth.
How much was the program?
YOU can ONLY know IF YOU TRY If YOU are interested YOU will try Anyway .
For journalism-absolutely not. My BA is in broadcasting. I got my masters tin communication to broaden my opportunities bc it was so hard to transition out of news. I'm in marketing/social media now.
