I am trying to decide about Mathworks, have an offer in progress. It's an architect role Base 180 Current - 150 Requires moving to MA Also with the current situation how is mathworks to join
For 30k switch is not worth it
Mathworks is highly technical company. What will you do there ?
Where are you now? Are you ok with paying $1600/mo for a basic 800sq ft 1bdr apt without in-unit washer-dryer? That’s out in the burbs, close to the office.
I am in CT an hour away from Natick. Rents are crazy compared to CT
MathWorks is as layoff proof as it comes.
I wouldn’t really categorize them as a SaaS company. The majority of their products are desktop software.
What’s your yoe?

Have you accepted the offer yet? Tbh, many experienced hires have a bad experience at MW. The company prefers to hire fresh grads in order to brainwash them into its way of doing things. The company has been building the same one product for 40 years and is very set in its own ways. As a new outsider, you will have difficulty making an impact or finding traction for bold initiatives. The company is pretty smug and thinks it invented continuous integration and unit testing, even though today, their tools are miles behind the state of the art in industry. One of the execs tells new hires: during orientation something along the lines: if you don’t like how we work, feel free to leave. Let that sink in. There are two big siloes. And within the two big siloes, there are many little ones. One old Glassdoor sums up the company culture very well in 3 words: communism with cookies.
No not yet. Still in process. But most of the places I see this as common for experienced hire.
Hey, I am looking for great wlb companies as well. I have about the same number of years of experience as you. You mentioned that MW offered 180 base. Are there any other additional components to salary like bonus etc? What could be the total comp?
They have 401k, insurance is good. No Stock options. I declined the offer
COL is actually what is making me re-think.
