I just joined linkedin. I have max 15% per pay period espp option for microsoft share. Do you recommend maxing it out? Any opinion on microsoft shares?
It's free money. Max it out. If you don't have confidence sell it right after it's purchased and you still make gain on whatever discount they buy at
So short term taxes will kick in on the profit right if i immediately sell?
Long term gain is 2 years for ESPP
@sQei45 does tesla have espp? Have u bot espp and seen that no taxes are charged on the discounted amount?
Okay so imagine stock price is $100 you get it at 15% discount ($85) and you sell it immediately at $100. Etrade will report this with cost basis of $85 and sale price of $100 with a short term capital gain tax of $15. However, you would adjust this in turbo tax to change the cost basis to $100 since you already paid income tax on the $15 discount. https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/investments-and-taxes/employee-stock-purchase-plans/L8NgMFpFX
👌
Yes! It's free money.
