Hey, folks, please I got question as I got laid off recently, and only have 1.5 YOE(solid), but received two interviews both from different teams at Goldman Sachs, I have seen the requirements on their JD was both 3 YOE+ and the title is associate, do you think this is normal? should I prepare for system design? even I don't know shit about SD tho :D Appreciate any info! With 1.5 YOE, they won't hire you as associate. The minimum requirement is 2.5 YOE. So even if you interview, either they will hire you as an Analyst and you need to find your way to promotion, or they won't hire you at all. With current market situation, GS thinks that for the same position earlier if they had to interview 10 people to fill the position, now they can get it in 5. So they will prefer people with 2.5+YOE candidates over you. If you have to prepare for system design then focus on distributed computing systems like hadoop, spark.
appreciate your reply, here is what I got from recruiter as they confirmed this is an associate role, so there is no chance for me to be get into this role? I have two interveiws schduled from different team at GS. Recuiter message - "The role is associate level. There will be a system design round should you progress. However due to the nature of these interviewers you may be recommended elsewhere even if your system design skills are not the strongest. I would complete the Coderpad first and then go from there." - what would this even mean?
This means they are interested in interviewing you and will try to fit you in some or the other position if you are a good candidate. So you should give interviews atleast. Prepare properly and do your best. Rest will all workout.
