My friend has applied for the position of Fellow at McKinsey Atlanta in Product Development and Procurement. He is done with his HR phone screening and has a phone case interview coming up in 10 days. There is an abundance of resources online and he wanted to follow a structured approach. Any suggestions regarding the same are appreciated. It would be awesome if someone could help out with a mock case interview. Thanks! #consulting #MBB #mckinsey #managementconsulting #recruitment
Things may be different nowadays, but here’s my advice. Phone case interviews are very short 15~30min max and they’re looking for a few main things: 1) organized thoughts 2) quick math skills 3) articulate speech Need to be solid in all of those areas or your friend is screwed. This is a wild guess, but I’d wager that the case is going to be a mix of a market sizing + light P/L case. So your friend should brush up on those two case types, and if he has time prep the other types as well. Once he gets past that and is doing in-person case interviews, they’ll be waaaay more complicated. Tends to come with a docket of information. Not sure what McK is up to these days during covid but I’ve heard that ZS and LEK are screen-sharing powerpoints instead of having people come into the office.

1) McKinsey Mind - teaches problem solving 2) Case in Point - practice real life problems 3) Read a lot of blogs and articles about product dev experience - remember their stories 4) interview questions - read them up for this role on glassdoor, watch YouTube videos etc. 5) Talk to people at McK - ask they why do they like to work there and use what you like for "why McKinsey" question 6) make a list of meaningful questions to ask the interviewers at the end
