Me! Me! Me! Are we living through a narcissism epidemic?

There are so many narcissistic imposters at Microsoft who provide no value to the company beyond posting trash about themselves on social media. Our leadership team tends to be equally guilty and contributing to this Me Me Me narcissistic epidemic within the company. I want to barf when I open up Linkedin these days. Take for example Kobe Bryant. How many of our leaders or your managers who never said a word about Kobe or even liked basketball are suddenly using this terrible tragedy as a backdrop to gain attention by posting pictures of themselves with their favorite Kobe quote they learned 30 seconds ago. Enough is enough people! Our narcissistic society where self-promotion and individuality seem to be essential needs to come to an end. Unforunately, we are not an empathetic comunity and majority of Microsoft emoloyees are a bunch of natcissistc imposters who only care about themselves, sales growth, score card metrics and money!

Oh God yeah, so many imposters and it works too. Wish there was a system to filter the shit out.

Have you considered spending less time consuming social media?

Microsoft CELA OP Jan 31, 2020

Don’t really use social media. It’s our culture even in the workplace. Typically the loudest and the one who self promotes gets the most rewards, bonuses and promotions. Sickening and they say we got rid of stack ranking

Delete Facebook and Instagram, only check LinkedIn for recruiters messages. The reality is narcissism is engrained into our DNA and social media just perfectly taps into it. Instagram sells the idea that anyone can be Instagram famous and people literally dedicate immense amounts of their time and emotional energy to acquiring clout. The end goal? Becoming a literal ad. People literally want to become ads. They want to be paid for their shitty iPhone selfies of themselves holding some product. It’s incredibly pathetic and the only way to combat it is not feed into it. Delete social media, you’ll be happier guaranteed.

I am still in shock over JFK Jr. Now Kobe? It's unbearable

NIO LeakySky Jan 31, 2020

I thought you were still grieving over JFK and Bobby. Glad you managed to move on

Kobe was a dick anyway. People naively equate fame with being a good person (although they're not mutually exclusive). OP, it sounds like you just have dumb coworkers. I left my last company of dumb coworkers and have been much happier since. It also helps that I got an 80% raise.

Exactly. You can’t get away from narcissistic behavior even if you stay off social media. Look at Brad Smith and how the company gloats and forces us to increase his social media status as if it’s part of our job. it’s all about me, I wrote a book, I’m on the news, buy my book, follow me on Twitter, like my linked post, let’s have town hall that focuses on my personal agenda which glorifies my accomplishments . Sickening pigs!

Our leadership has an exaggerated sense of self-importance, sense of entitlement and require constant, excessive admiration. They expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it.
