Men's fashion advice

Recently arrived in the bay area and it looks like I need to upgrade my wardrobe a bit (not kidding). Do you guys recommend any articles or youtube vids for getting such advice?

Just have a stylist pick out your clothes. This is why Nordstrom exists.

+1

I feel Nordstrom can get pricey if you wish to buy a lot. I guess I can just copy their styles and shop them at a cheaper store. I dislike Gap though, so my options would be limited I guess.

Hit the gym, get a trainer and get a sexy bod. Any clothing will look great.

Amazon bluesJ OP Feb 17, 2020

Yeah, that's my attitude in general. But a little presentation helps too.

True that. Read up on dressing styles and body types. Follow influencers or professionals who have the same body type as you do and don’t be afraid to try something new. Shop at outlet malls and take pictures when you try any outfits. Mirrors lie (brands use all kinds of gimmicks as there are a million types of mirrors). Trust the pictures you take on your cellphone and go with it. Train yourself to be your critic and observe when people compliment you on your choices.

Upgrade here? To what? Costco khakis and polos or if you feel extra fancy to pata-vest? People here dress like hobos including hobos.

Eat right, exercise at least a little. Don't commit to buying too many clothes yet because you are new to fashion and haven't develop your style. You will regret many of your purchase in a few months. Follow some fashion blog or YouTube channel that you find fitting to your taste. Read some general guide and use your judgement to form your own opinion. Buy small amount of clothes every few weeks and slowly build up your wardrobe. As your taste develop you will be thankful that you didn't buy too many items, or too expensive, at first because you can shift your look. Be caution that as you grew into adulthood, quality will become more important than quantity. Consider stop buying a new pair of $60-80 sneaker every 6 months and invest in a ($150+) decent quality pair that will last for 2+ year. H&M might have some great fine once in a blue moon but consider investing in pieces that tend to last for more than a few seasons. Try some slightly higher price brand until you're happy with what you get in quality/cost. Stop buying cheap leather shoes. Learn to clean and maintain your shoe and clothes so they last longer (the dryer is the devil).

Get some friends that are girls and ask them.

Amazon bluesJ OP Feb 17, 2020

Dont wanna bug my friends tbh, they have pretty busy lives themselves. Seemed like a common enough problem so posted here instead.

It’s difficult because your style should be personalized to your body shape and hair color and all that so I feel people who know what you look like can give you better advice.
