Did you know that 2 out of 3 college bound low income students reported they have no idea how to get connected with someone in their dream industry? Despite 90+% knowing an idea of what career they want to pursue! I spend evenings and weekends working with the 100% volunteer team of Close the Gap to build the summer mentorship program because we believe that every motivated student should have access to achieving their full potential and pursue fulfilling careers in STEM, law, academia or whatever field they want, without the unfortunate economic and social limitations that currently stack the odds against low income students. If you can contribute 45 minutes a week during the summer to help mentor a high school student, consider applying or sharing this with your network/company to help spread the word. Here's what you'll do as a mentor: • Connect: Mentor a high school fellow once a week for ~45 minutes via remote video call • Learn: Receive comprehensive training and access to structured mentorship curriculum designed to make your mentoring experience as impactful as possible • Inspire: Help your mentee develop essential life skills-- like public speaking, time management, and ultimately self-leading and executing a social impact project end to end-- that pave the way for their success.
