Can someone on H1B please confirm if they were allowed to have a Merrill Edge account based on a valid I797 document without a valid visa. The agent I spoke to has no idea how this works. Did they open an account for you? Did they close the account on expiry of visa? Trying to get the preferred honors status with BofA and hence wanted to know. Thanks for your help.
Just say permanent resident .. no body checks documents. Opened account in 2000 on just drivers license
Don’t confuse bank people since they regulatory compliance, just say permanent resident. Now a days illegals are voting too😜
I’m a bank employee myself and they still asked green card copy as proof of permanent residence.
Never I provided any docs other than SSN and drivers license.. back in 2000-2003..
You can open a Merril Edge self directed ccount on visa , I have one. You can't open Merril guided investing.
Do they need valid unexpired visa? Agent thinks if my visa expired they will close the account. Is that true? My i94 is valid but visa may expire.
You get time I think 90 days to provide new i797 before they take action. Only if you don't provide , they will close. That's what I remember then telling.Generally I get my i797 approved way before expiry. Also after the first time I opened the account, till now they haven't asked for renewed visa/i797
Just go into one of the financial centers with all the documents just like visa interviews 🤦🏻♂️
Tried the online version of it but agent is clueless. Already shared all documents with him.
I tried 3 years back. They said only applicable for citizens and GC holders. Not sure, if they changed their policies now.
They are allowing it now. No issue there.
Agent thinks I will need a valid visa all the time or else they will close it. But I see others opening it. So wondering how they keep it open.
