Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Google layoff deniers

I admit, I was one of them. A few days before the layoff rumors peak or a media report came out on this topic, there would be boatloads of employees coming out to defend the company on Blind saying a layoff would never happen at their company. And look where we are. Granted, I personally didn't post anything saying there would be no layoffs, but I was in wait and watch mode to see whether it would really happen or not since I was doubtful myself. And here we are, all the major companies we defended as saying "they would never have layoffs" have announced layoffs. Except Apple for now, but I feel Tim Cook is going to jump on the bandwagon and use this opportunity to cut costs just like other FAANG (and there will be Apple employees on here denying that it will happen as well.)

Cue the few that still come here on layoff posts to tell people about how their company is still hiring like gangbusters "Hiring like gangbusters" is how we got here in the first place. If it hasn't reached your company it onlymeans it hasn't happened YET. They basically telling others to join them to be part of their companys impending LIFO layoff statistics

Meta fomosapien Jan 20, 2023

I was a Layoff denier at Meta. I was wrong because all the time I found Zuck to be a brutally transparent CEO. There were signals such as “we never do layoffs” in pandemic to “we are not planning for layoffs” in mid-2022, but I kept telling myself Facebook’s performance driven culture would remove the low performers thereby not needing any layoffs. When Nov 8th happened, I agree I felt uneasy even though I wasn’t impacted. That secured feeling of “as long as you do great you’ll be fine” went away wrt Meta. I am not one of those who devotes their life to their company, but I prefer working at companies where I have control for the outcome of my actions. I treated Meta as that one of the few companies, but not anymore after Nov 8th.

And the same happened with Google. Personally me when I see layoff “rumors” instead of fighting to the teeth to prove it’s made up by people, I just concentrate on interview preps, emergency fund planning, etc. Because at the end of the day, the reality is that no one really knows!

I didn't think Google would do it. They didn't lay off in 2008. They still have strong profit. They should still grow long term as internet adoption and reliance increases. But yea.

Apple doesn't over hire. One of the few big tech companies that didn't go crazy with growth. I think they're fine.
