I was contacted by a recruiter who appears to be from the Meta in-house contractor team for a 12 month contract role in data? I've never done a contractor role before, but the salary calculated from the hourly rate would be more than my current tc. I'm wondering what's the rate of conversion if you work for Meta's own contracting house as opposed to a 3rd party agency. How much do you pay for the health insurance and what not? TC: 125k
Don't quit being an FTE to become a contractor
Do both, over employed
Avoid it and apply for a FTE role. Contractors here are treated as 2nd class.
True , but that applies everywhere At least , at Meta, they can partake in all/many freebies
Care to elaborate a bit on what you exactly mean by 2nd class citizens? I guess you don't mean they are just more disposable than employees because that is obvious. Are we talking about engineering roles? If we talk about impact for mid-senior engineers, I don't really see these massive gaps between contractors and employees at Spotify - but perhaps this is different @Meta. From the meritocratic standpoint, I understand where this bias comes from since the interview process for getting a contract roles is lightweight relative to perms, but that is true in every company. Perms and contractors have different motivations and different incentives, but they both make contributions to the teams and the company so I don't understand.
Benefit cost vary. There is not such thing as a conversion, that would be illegal, but you can apply for fte roles of course. There's also no such thing as "in house."
From my experience, I get paid 25% more being a contractor than full-time and I don't need to follow RTO mandates full-time employees need to. On the downside I don't get PTO and insurance may cost more depending on agency. Overall staying contractor is worth it.
I was a Meta contractor for 15 months. It was a way to move out of SaaS sales into strategy, plus I could do remote work outside of the country. Meta allows you to go into any office (unlike a Google contractor, or "red badge") they include you in team events, etc. Conversion is incredibly difficult so you need to come in as a superstar. I get health insurance through my contracting agency, I never get sick so it works for me.
So you can enter any meta office? And work outside the country too?

It is a blessing…
No advantage being a contractor if you want to convert to FT. You have to go through the same loop Rates are obviously between you and the vendor. Can range from $80-$120 , per vendor/ interview performance Not sure what’s’Meta's own contracting house’
It's their own internal contracting team, so this isn't done via a 3rd party agency like teksystems. They call it CWX.
interesting , never knew of that option Meta name on your resume will surely open doors i.e. recruiters will be impressed But (big BUT), meta DE stack sucks ; it has no equivalent outside. What you learn inside is useless outside ( i am still searching for a job since losing meta one, months back). On balance, if you want to use the contracting exp. as a stepping stone to Meta FTE or any other FAANG , do join and see how a FAANG life looks like. But, do not be too complacent with the contractor role
