I am graduating with my PhD in computer vision soon and have a few FAANG research internships with one of them being at Meta (not FAIR). Got EE all PSC during Meta internship and shipped code. Average publication output but with solid computer vision conferences. Looking to move into SWE focusing on ML/CV. Am I dreaming thinking I can land E4 directly after PhD? Leetcoding and system design prepping like a madman. TC: 🥜 grad school
As a Meta recruiter, depending on how you do in interview & your YOE from internships...quite possible to hit E4 with PHD. Happy to answer any questions you have.
8 months YOE.
Does 8 months of internship experience count as YOE when being recruited as a fresh PhD grad?
I don’t know a single E3 with a phd
E4/L4 is the standard level for PhD new grads. You need to be exceptionally bad (or have a PhD in a completely irrelevant topic, eg history) for you to get an E3 offer.
Why not E4? If you’re good that’s the right level.
Don’t have any experience besides grad school and internships. I am good though.
I’ve hired freshly minted PhDs at E4 to my team, as long as they’re mature and strong in their field that can work out fine imho. Make sure you join a group that needs your skill set narrowly, so you can focus on learning behaviors and other soft skills needed for industry and can stay comfortable on the technical front while figuring that out.
