Coming in as a new E5 with 5-6 YoE. Any tips for making the most of my time as E5? And onboarding/ramping up quickly? Any cool perks to check out in Burlingame or Menlo Park? Or maybe even things to avoid as an E5? Any tips are welcome. Tc 440

Why is it so G*damn difficult to move money out of India
I am an E5 at Meta. It took me about two years or so to get the hang of things, and I kinda regret wasting some time. Here's my advice: -for your team, figure out what are the top priorities and relentlessly focus on them. Work with the e6/e7s in your team and make sure you get visibility with them. Don't try to do anything and everything -Figure out which cross functional teams your team works with, and form partnerships. This will give you a higher level insight into your org, and also chances to tackle "larger problems". Get to know the pms, etc. You director knowing your work is awesome, other teams directors knowing you is amazing -do a lot of code review. This will tell you who is working on what, and get you insight into systems and how they work -figure out what tools the most productive people on the team use, and if you can help improve workflows for everyone that is great visibility -silence chats and try to get proper focus time every day. You can easily get deluged with meetings, don't say yes to every one. -get into the interviewing pool. There's a backlog to become an interviewer and it can take time. Also gives good insight into other teams -don't bother too much with doing the team building social activities. Come review time they don't really matter much, and it can be a time sink -try all the various cafes in MPK. Burlingame has a few options, there's BBQ at both which is always great (no brisket in the winter though). Be careful not to binge on snacks and the sweet shops at MPK. Use the bikes in MPK to get around
Sounds exhausting.
Good writeup Definitely helps me coming in as a new E5
