What do you do as meta e6? Mainly code? Or drive features? Or lead projects? What percentage of the work is coding? How many hours per week do you work? TC: 500k

Currently an M1 at Meta.. While the general SWE responsibilities of coding, leading projects etc apply.. The current main criteria at Meta for E6 is to generate work. i.e. an E6 shouldn’t be asking their manager or E7 on what to work on, they should help drive the roadmap for their work stream and identify opportunities which can be worked on. They should be able to size a large project accurately and be able to identify risks well. Working well with stakeholders is also important. The number of hours depends on your ability and the number of stakeholders involved.. can be 40-45 hours easily.
I have not been coding for couple of years now, however really good at other aspects you mentioned like generating work, driving roadmap etc. would you consider such a person for e6?
For team match: If you have been able to clear the E6 interview bar and are ready to code atleast 50-60% of your time then I would definitely consider you. But if you are talking about your conversation with a recruiter to set up an E6 interview: Then I would suggest telling them that even though you haven’t written code recently, you are good at it and are ready to get back to it. If you mention to a recruiter that you don’t want to code, it’s possible the conversation would end right there.
Congrats! What’s your title in Apple?

I’m a staff engineer at Stripe, and if Meta E6 is anything like Staff at Stripe, my guess is the answer will be totally dependent on your team and your preferences. Staff engineers come in different flavors - Tech Leads, Depth Focussed, Experts at launching new initiatives and projects, etc
Agree, good point!!
