11+ YoE I've been to a Facebook interview for an E5 role. I got to the final rounds and got strong positive signals for behavioural and system design interviews but mixed signals for coding. The recruiter then asked me to do one more coding interview, all or nothing. It was very close, but I bombed on this interview. The positive process helped me take Facebook from a pedestal as I got close to an offer. Iâm a Staff+ now and the same recruiter came to me with another opportunity for E6, and it looks like the interview process is different. For the phone screening, it's not only code but code + behavioural in 1 hour (it looks like it's just 1 question rather than 2, but I saw a folk on leetcode having two questions anyway). If I got yes, for the final round, it'd be 2 coding + 1 behavioural + 2 system design. I'm confident in behavioural and system design interviews for E5 positions as I know the expectations, and I am an interviewer in my current company. But I'm unsure about E6 expectations and what I should aim for to stand out (I haven't interviewed any other Staff engineer for comparison either). Can anyone help me on setting my expectations for this interview? What's the breakpoint between E5 and E6 they're looking for? I donât think you can fake being E6, if you are not one already. If you have the actual experience for designing new systems in any scalable way you will do fine. If not, no books will help you here
Thanks, but faking knowledge has never been taken into account here. Being capable of designing complex systems is different from doing well during an interview based on interviewers expectations. Iâm looking for a clearer idea of whatâs the difference on expectations between roles so I make sure I cover the desired signals during the interview.
@OP: For which group are you interviewing with ? Is it ML teams or non ML? Isn't Meta on hiring freeze for non ML teams in Software Engineering? (Thete are still hiring for Production Engineering and PM's)
Non-ML. As far as I know the specific freeze is for below E6 levels.
There is no freeze for E6 SWE profile. I am being contacted by recruiter for E6
