I am currently L63 at MS. Interviewed for meta, and recruiter came back with E4 which is pretty much an under-leveling. Current tc: 220K Location: Seattle I dont have any competing offers yet but I am giving interviews. Have decent wlb in my current project. How difficult/easy is e4-e5 promo in fb? Should I just wait and give an interview again, in case I haven’t got a better offer meanwhile#? How does cooling period work in this case, since I have actually cleared the interview?
The promo should be relatively easy, but harder than just interviewing elsewhere after improving on your system design skills
Whats your current experience? E4 to E5 has to happen within 3years for sure. If you are looking for good WLB, you may want to learn more about the work culture at FB and Infamous performance evaluations called PSC. Cooling off period at FB is one year unless you interview for other type of positions
I thought 2022 onwards PSC will be yearly and hence more relaxed
~10 yrs total experience. Yup, have been reading horrific posts about wlb. That makes me think it might rather be much easier practicing more of system design stuff and land on e5. Not really sure though
But going on E4, learning as you go to E5 is equal to prepping at coming in as E5. Given your experience, it would be a good idea to come back as E5. Keep leet coding or try other companies in the meanwhile
It's easier to prep system design in like 3-5 months and get E5 than grind 2-3 years at E4 while struggling to onboard and get almost no time to prep!!
Recruiter hasn’t come back with tc numbers yet.. What is max E4 offer for seattle?
Levels is kinda outdated. I think max E4 is around 350
I rejected e4 and joined here as 63. My main concern was wlb and pip. I may have joined FB if they would have offered e5.
TC offered?
10 years of msft work experience is like 3 YOE. E4 will give you a >50% TC bump. E5 will be a quick promotion if you're good. You should take the offer.
Come as e4. It is fairly easy to get to E5 if you are underleveled. If you are already performing as E5, you can probably get the promotion within a year.
I hope u didn't mind but I DMed you a few questions about the interviews.
Could you please provide your TC? Thanks
63 to E4 sounds reasonable. Plus you're probably getting a TC bump of >50%
