It's funny when leadership jumps on the hype train. Then decide to jump off after losing billions. Changing your company name due to hype is the ultimate hubris. it's like if Google changed it's name to Waymo. Chatbots are also hype. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/meta-microsoft-disney-reversing-bets-123000778.html #meta
Everyone in the games industry knew this was a waste of $$$ years ago. The gaming industry has been merchandising metaverses for decades.
And porn :)
I think everyone knew this period. Out of all the hype cycles that have happened over the 10 years the metaverse is the only one that absolutely no one wanted. At least not in any form that’s going to happen within the next 10 years.
Metaverse is dead until wearable technology that doesn’t look ridiculous is rolled out. User interface is key.
VR to me is like snowboarding. It’s cool once you’re all geared up and ready. But there’s quite a few barriers to entry like needing space, money, general inconvenience (headset can be heavy, sweaty, uncomfortable), potential motion sickness, not everyone in your social circle uses/enjoys VR so you’re left out.
I used to work in the AR hardware industry during the 2014-2018 hype. It was all bullshit. At the end of the day nobody wanted a hot, heavy device on their face that just showed what any android phone could. The only practical application was in hands on tech work like remote maintenance or repair of capital equipment. Everyone I worked with was laughing at Zuck’s folly. “Metaverse” what a stupid joke.
Everyone you worked with and everyone you didn't work with. Everyone is laughing!
I heard Zuck wants rename Meta to FacebookAI
Alphabard name change is in the works
hehe so funny to be a salaried employee watching rich people lose billions while i earn my 🥜
Well it doesn’t look like rich people lost billions. Only shareholders did if it was meta
i guess zuck who owns millions of fb shares isn’t a shareholder and is poor
