I am ex-Meta SWE part of the recent layoff. Since I am no longer in Warn period, I have to give a small formal loop (2 interviews) to get rehired back (within next 6 months). Recruiter told me that the majority of laid-off engineers at Senior levels are not able to clear this formal interview process. We used to joke that our interview process has a much higher bar than our promotion process for even L-1 level. But this hit like a hard truth. It is also possible that hiring committee or interviewers are now keeping an insanely high bar. Note - Blind deactivated my Meta account, so using my old account.

Recalibrating and skewed towards more layoffs.
There is no such thing as hiring bar. It's all subjective. You're just unlucky in this case.
There is one. Ex: A friend of mine works at Company A. They do 4 interview rounds in onsite. Interviewers rate candidates as Strong Yes, Soft yes, Soft no, Strong No. He was saying that ppl with 2 No, 2 Yes were also hired during pandemic. Now, they don't hire unless you get Yes in all interviews(one soft No is a reject). There's another friend that said, there are many good candidates that does their core job well. So, they are looking for something extra to select those candidates ex: show your analytical skills ... Show that you can be a entry level Data scientist if not SWE. Another friend that gives interview training told that some candidates who wouldn't even clear E3 interview at Meta got e5 offers during pandemic. There's an inherent bar that's not apparent.
Nothing wrong with failing as E3 and passing as E5. People tend to improve over time.
I have not understood why the bar is set so high when actual work is nearly not as complex (for the most part)
Definitely for the most part. Because it really depends on what you work on and at which companies.
It also depends on the economy. It’s currently an employers’ market and they have more power to be picky. Unlike recent years when it’s been a candidates’ market.
Meta doesn’t hire the people they laid off. They are just trying to be nice. Why you want to go to the place that 🥾 you? Have some self respect and find something better.
He's also purchasing a Christmas gift for his wife's boyfriend.
They reached out to me. And they are keeping the old stocks in the offer, which is making my TC 800k. As much as I love my ego, reality is no one can beat 800k for staff in this market for non-AI.
Is the small formal loop technical? Does it include DSA and system design or is it just more behavioral?
Behavior and System design.
May be they don’t want to hire people they fired?
They reached out to me.
You are in a hidden URA list.
They would not have reached out to me.
Our recruiters are often in the dark
Curious- how did blind got to know that you are not in Meta ?
I created some layoff post that triggered reverification.
HR snitches w/ mod power in the Meta employee group.

For some odd reason hiring bars across the industry are basically impossible. Idk why? Are there candidates that can actually do all this bs?
Yeah it's nuts. You need everything to go perfect these days to pass the bar.
It will come down. Many of the HMs are now complaining that they are unable to hire anyone and position are open for months.
