Full disclosure I was laid off from Meta in November. I only have gratitude for Meta. I served for many years and got a great severance. The projects I worked on helped me land another role at a smaller company in January. Smaller pay package but interesting work. Feel sorry for the folks who will be impacted. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-03-07/meta-is-said-to-plan-thousands-more-layoffs-as-soon-as-this-week
It’s a crap show inside - I would say just kill meta - we have useless leaders and @ss lickers getting promoted, it’s a nepo world
This is what happens when you make engineers as leaders.
As opposed to Intel where MBA's as leaders have run the company into the ground? Despite me personally being laid off, Meta's top executive leadership is allright. It is the middle level of management and leadership - the M2 to D2 and a few first level VPs who are the issue and have set the rot within the company.
Meta newsfeed is like the Maury Pivoch of trash. I deeply feel for all those impacted. But they need to learn from it so they don’t have to keep successive rounds of layoffs. Any engineers with control of the news feed should subvert it. The world would be better off.
One just needs to stand up again after the shock hits you like a block of cement. Good job finding your bearing and glad things worked out for you. Sad to hear rumors about round 2.
No wonder they went full metaverse retarded. They wanted an excuse to lay people off and running the company into the ground was the best way to do that.
Let's talk about Bard.
Bozuck, Bard did not eat up massive company resources. Our metaverse play did nothing but serve Zuck's vanity.
@op...which company did you end up joining? And how big was the pay cut
Small public company as distinguished engineer (2nd highest IC level below company fellow) IC7 at Meta. Base salary about 5% less RSUs only about 30% of Meta So TC is only half. But in this market it's good
That’s pretty huge hit on TC. Did you count Meta’s TC with “stock depreciation” or by nominal at grant time?
Cool story bro
I'm just thankful I was in the first round. At a startup now, still FAANG levels of pay, too. Definitely wonder what the mid-term negative impacts will be from all these layoffs. I'm optimistic in the long term - companies come and go, and Meta has been moribund for years now
What startup? Are u hiring 🙏🏻
We are sadly not hiring engineers at the moment, if it's any optimism having the Meta name on the resume helped me a lot Best of luck friends
Last time I read on blind about layoffs happening at godaddy I wasn't really sure and... Actually happened the next day. So you better believe it
Did you get laid off?
You never “served” there. You gave your time in exchange to money mutually agreed by meta and yourself. Please don’t use that word. It’s a very Indian thing to say it and it’s wrong. We are no longer in colonial era.
Aye Aye! amazing comment 👏
Yes, also please don't build any "services" there. You can also say you're slaved at Meta.. mates would agree
This is true?!
Bloomberg BusinessWeek is not a rag
Yes this is reliable news source and we trust this more than our internal leadership
