Meta SDE E5 Team Matching Tips & Recommendations

Hi, I recently passed Meta tech interview and was scheduled for team matching. This is quite novel experience to me, and I would really appreciate any tips and/or suggestions. On paper I need to choose few teams from ~20 (Blob Storage, FinTech, Conversions API etc.) and pass an interview with their hiring managers however: - I've heard that not all teams in Meta are equal in terms of WLB and promotion opportunities. Is there a glassdoor analog for FB teams where it is possible to get at least some picture what is going on there, how bad on-call situation etc.? - What interview with hiring manager consists of? I understand that this is my opportunity to learn more about the team, but I would expect hiring manager to have questions as well. What kind of questions are expected there? Please and thanks! UPDATE: got an offer, see details in comments! YOE 15+ Current TC: ~400K (currently not in EPAM) New TC: 415K + 65K sign-in bonus #meta #swe #tech #career

I got matched for E5 but did not need to pass any additional hiring manager interview. I think you meant that the hiring manager has to “like” you hence offer you to be on the team?

I have no idea what is going to happen, hence asking

It’s messy bc it’s a first come first served basis. Move fast if you find a team. There is no perfect team.

Thank you for the info

I just did a team matching with the new place I will work at, it was the first time I ever did a team matching. This was not at Meta, but perhaps there is some overlap in our situations. I got rejected twice before getting matched on the third one. Let me give this advice that I would give myself - 1. They ARE interviews and treat them as such. They are not chill conversations that the candidate just chooses which team they like. They reject people all the time. 2. They are only 30 minutes - which means 2a. Bombard them with questions at the beginning of the interview! This is a strategy that has saved my neck in many behavioral interviews - sound as genuinely interested, enthusiastic and confident as you can. Starting with questions will help you control the pace of the interview and also takes time so it limits what they can ask you. I am going to give you some example questions, I’m sorry if they aren’t up to your liking - “what are we working on now” “what are current challenges like” “how is the team culture and how does it compare to the rest of the enterprise” “what is the tech stack like” Also ask questions about the team itself. If it’s Blob Storage then ask stuff like “does mechanics of uploading a file ever change?”. 2b. You ONLY need to have TWO stories ready to go. Make them your very BEST stories, because you only get two. Make sure they are recent. 3. Make sure you prepare just like an interview. They don’t like you (yet), and they will be happy to reject you if they are not impressed. I treated them like regular conversations and I got rejected twice before getting matched on the third one. If you prep well they are EASY. If you don’t prep they are EASY TO FAIL.

You don’t get rejected at meta bc you messed the sell call. It’s not an interview at all.

I just talked to a manager at meta 20 mins ago that said he rejects over half of all the candidates that he does the team matching with.

I had 3 interviews, all 3 were different. All managers mentioned that they've read my resume. I guess that's how they decide if candidate is okay for team match for their team on not. Managers tried to sell his team asked what I am looking for in a new team and it was next to impossible for me to choose, I really liked all opportunities given. chose my team the same day evening, and next morning got info from the recruiter that position has been filled already, so we proceeded my second choice. Got an offer and updated my post :)

how long did the process take end to end? from recruiter saying moving to team matching to manager interviews etc

EPAM Systems tesarus OP Oct 12, 2023

After the final coding interview it was about a week. Then around 2 days for recruiter to send list of positions/teams, then around 2 days for all in terviews and next day - offer.
