Meta laid off employees, but it was about efficiency and business. Jobs are coming back when market is booming again. Google laid off workers mainly because they want to move jobs to Mexico and India. Jobs are lost from US forever. Moving jobs to India is industry-wide trend and inevitable. There’s so much great tech talent there for good price. It makes financial and logical sense. CEO should be fired for not taking advantage of it.

India has a lot of great talent and Google is paying them tons. They hire an above average Indian in the US for 300k but can hire exceptional Indian talent for 150k in India. They’re still paying someone in India more than what an average engineer is paid in the US.
That was the same reason when US was doing business with China during past decades. Now Americans know they were wrong

AI will swipe all our monkey coding jobs. No more jobs for Americans, no more H1B for all the others.
The AI trend will invert this outsourcing trend. India has been known for massive amount of junior engineers and these are automatable now. The ones that will be worth paying for, are senior local engineers that can quickly react to changes. Unless Metaverse comes in full swing and people magically start working in the same timezone, India will always be slow to coordinate.
