Observations from Vision Pro launch: 1. Apple has effectively made the Meta the Android of VR. 2. I wouldn’t be surprised if Meta tries to plays catch up now with a Quest Pro line (and goes nowhere), just like Google/Samsung did for Android phones. 3. Apple has released the Pro variant first. If you draw a parallel to iPhones they have room for a Max equivalent to price above Pro and base version below Pro. 4. The VR market is now effectively priced between $500 and $3500. #apple #visionpro #meta #tech
Meta isn’t new Android or IBM PC, while their software can’t be installed for 3rd party hardware
Meta is targeting vr Apple is targeting ar So can’t compare two different things.
Doesn’t matter. We don’t have differences between AR and VR today. Apple showed really weak application layer with (probably) great hardware.
Not true. Vision pro is a VR too. Apple decided to use AR for PR purposes. Apple is the master of PR
I still don't understand the point of VR.
Their devices run on custom android, so yes.
Today it’s android, tmr is official independent fork
Yeah apple will be the king of AR/VR market, aka king of nothing.
I did not get the analogy. Android phones are the most popular and have almost 3x market share compared to iphone.
Just compare spends in app markets
Market share is widely quoted but completely irrelevant. First of all who cares about global share when that included people who buy 78$ phones and never pay for anything else Second American market is dominated by iPhones Third apple users outspend android users by a wide margin so much so that you can basically ignore android spend
I don’t think Meta is trying to play catch-up. Apples device is not targeted to average joes which is why it’s $3.5k. The Quests are targeted to average joes/consumers around $500, which is the price of a modern game console (PS5/Xbox). I wouldn’t be surprised if Meta could make a device just as impressive at that price point. I also wouldn’t expect a $500 device to be as polished or packed with as many features as a $3.5k device. I would compare Vision pro to the HoloLens 2 before comparing it to the Quest 2/3 If Apple releases a better headset with a price comparable to the Quest 3 then Meta should be concerned about being behind.
It’s targeted for average Joes: 2/3 presentation was about casual home usage
At $3,500? Yeah, right.
I just remembered Meta released a new vr headset just before Aapl at wwdc
And what you thought Google/Samsung will let Meta be android of VR? Except metamates no one has confidence/audacity to think that Meta will take on Apple in VR/AR/Spatial computing lineup
Yes, Google isn’t trying to join VR, so they are already fucked up if they would decide to join. Like Microsoft with WP7
There's a lot of reports saying that Samsung/Google are teaming up to come out with an AR/VR device in the next year or two. Samsung focusing on the hardware, Google on the OS/software
