Hi everybody! I’m a senior in college who got reached out to for a new grad position at Meta. I received the OA and passed all the test cases (and am very sure I got the optimal time complexity solution) on all the problems but still got rejected a few days after with the recruiter citing that my OA result as the reason being why. Is there anyone who knows what might have happened (or maybe I did just fail the OA though I think that’s not super likely)? This year has been really rough for new grad recruiting and I was very disappointed and surprised by the rejection. Thank you! TC last summer: 30k + housing Current TC: 0 (I don’t know if these are relevant but last time I made a post 2 people told me to post them so I figured I’d add them)
Send email to the recruiter. Ask why you got rejected after completing all. If no response, name and Shame the recruiter and the company all over LinkedIn, Instgram
I was told no additional feedback could be provided. I don’t intend on shaming the company since I’m sure there was something that happened that I’m not aware of and I’m interested in working there in the future. I’m just really disappointed since the job hunt has been really hard and I thought I have a strong shot at this.
I haven't been involved in recruiting yet at Meta, but if you do competitive programming and breezed through all of the answers without verbalizing your thought process as you were doing it, I could see how someone might either think you were cheating or dock you slightly for not clearly communicating your reasoning. Also, you may have just gotten unlucky and had an interviewer who was having a crappy day and subconsciously felt pessimistic about your performance, or maybe they thought they were interviewing a candidate for +1 level above what you were actually applying for. Point is, don't over-analyze or beat yourself up over it. Luck is ALWAYS a component and sometimes it just doesn't go your way.
It was an Online Assessment.
It was an OA haha but thank you for your kind words.
Did you get LC tagged? And how was the workplace assessment? Maybe that was the reason for the rejection over the coding section?
I don’t have LC premium so I don’t know about your first question. I’m not sure what could have gone wrong in the workplace assessment and it’s unfortunate if that’s what went wrong but maybe there’s something I don’t know about.

I’ve seen some people continue with non perfect OA too. Perhaps they think some people are cheating and too good of a score is not what they’re looking for.
Yeah I know of some people who moved on with non perfect OA scores. I do competitive programming and so the OA questions were fairly simple. I know some people who couldn’t do the last problem and still moved on while I was able to do all of them with 30 minutes to spare. If so, is there anything I can do about this?
