Peaceful Protest Hasn’t Worked and Has Been Met With Aggression.
Hey employees of Meta, wanted to understand how difficult or easy it is to get promoted from E4 to E5 in 33 months. Is there a hard deadline for it?(fire if not promoted). Seems like an aggressive deadline. At my current company idea promo from L5 to L6(similar level at Meta) it takes about 4-6 years. Want to hear your thoughts on this. TC:🥜 New TC: 320k Yoe : 2.5

Dont stress it - it's there because its doable and most people that pass the interviews are able to make it. Does everyone succeed? No
To be honest, it all depends on your manager. Your manager may promote you within two halves or just wait until 5th half.
What’s the responsibilities for E4 and E5?
The answer to that would be a 3 page post which I’m not going to type. What I will say is that it’s not only realistic, but something like 90% of E4s make E5 in 33 months, and I’d say over half do it in less than 24. Your manager is punished if they can’t get you promoted in that timeframe, and rewarded if they can, so is highly incentivized to take it seriously and help you grow the skills needed to make it happen. Are people let go who can’t do that kind of growth? Sure. It happens. But it’s also a narrow band, and very much the exception. Have confidence joining and work with your manager on a growth path and you’ll be fine. It’ll also happen a lot faster than at Amazon. Waaaay faster. You’re not wrong to notice the difference, but it is a real one, and not an illusion.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say easy, but definitely doable as 90% of people are promoted within that time frame. It won’t be handed to you — you’ll have to put in the effort to find a high impact project and execute, and ideally have a strong manager to back you up. But I don’t think this timeline should deter you from joining by any means
depending on the teams you join, high visibility + high performance i’ve seen people go from E3->E6 in 2 years lol 3 -> 4 in 6 months 4 -> 5 in 6 months and 5-> 6 in 1 year
Isn’t this 90% number everyone keeps throwing around a bit misleading? I’m sure the large majority of e4 who know they aren’t going to get promo in time just end up leaving and aren’t part of the statistic
Does automatic promo from E4 to E5 mean your TC will automatically increase too?
Easy.
Appreciate if you could explain. What’s responsibilities of E4 and E5 and what is needed to achieve promo?
Deliver one project E2E while showing E5 behavior. Doable in a year to 18 months from hire
