I just heard a friend of mine was promoted to E7 there. He joined as an E3 new grad in 2017. I also know multiple people who got from E3 new grad to EM in 3-4 years. Too bad it’s no longer hiring in large numbers. Perhaps it’ll be a good idea to join there when the economy recovers.
Nobody will hire them once they get laid of and ppl realize they are php e7s with direction axis lol
Exactly this.
What is direction axis?
The pressure at E7 is quite insane. Maybe your friend is quite capable?
Yeah I don't really put that much emphasis on meta's levels. Maybe they're a rockstar who knows. If it was G then I would be really impressed
I'm considering moving to Databricks and this post now has me second guessing myself. How are things at DB?
Promos are certainly way slower than meta. Company is doing well. 5 years from 3-5 is normal here
If they ever have to move to another company no one would hire them at that level. They are pretty much stuck at meta
Might be part of their retention strategy 🤔
Why assume that it's not deserved. If someone performs well at the level's expectations, then they get what they deserve. The perf cycles are thorough with plenty of calibrations, especially at higher levels. Your friend must kick some ass.
Crusty old people jealous that a young guy is higher achieving than they are. I for one love that Meta doesn't play the bullshit game of "minimum YoE for level"
Not everybody is that successful. In fact many get stuck at E5 (terminal). Some leave company as E4 in red zone (poor directional, tech leading or mentoring skills). E7 minimum scope is 2 teams of 10 each. So much difficult now with slower hiring. Some orgs have 1 E7 in 50. Most E6s and E7s have to content with Meets rating, earlier MM was common for new ones before covid.
Not everyone gets to E5+ the jelly is strong with this one
I think most people can get to E5? It's senior eng, the first terminal level
