So passed all the god damn interviews, got an offer approved (still don't know the details though). I'm team matching now. The recruiter is making it look like you have to say yes to the first team that wants you, but she quickly found an interesting and interested team. She pressured me to say yes ASAP but I asked to first talk to the manager she didn't like it, was suggesting against it. I still asked to talk first. Took a few days to find a spot in the managers calendar. Truly the position got snatched before my scheduled talk with that manager. So is this the reality now? Got to take it "site unseen", or take whatever. I'm not sure I want that. I mean she will get her "score" but I will have to stay "there" and work until I am able to switch a team. Or is she only BS-ing me with this? TC: 500k
It's strange you got such a recruiter. In my experience, my recruiter kindly asked if I'd like to talk the manager. Since it's optional and my team was pre-allocated (I already know which product before my interview), it's not necessary to talk to the EM. I was already tired after many rounds of interviews, so I declined to talk to more people. It's just a job. It turned out it's really OK to not talk to the hiring manager as long as you know your passion and strength. My first EM was awesome. It's easy to switch jobs after your first year without going through the loop.
Thanks man that helps. Btw when did you get hired? Was it before all the layoffs? Maybe that is why it's very different now. Or I just got a very aggressive person
Yes, I was hired during Covid time before all the layoffs. It's still a good company. People almost forgot about the layoffs and moved on with life as usual.
What's your level? The reality is there are many people in the pipeline who are waiting to be matched. There are also internal folks who are looking to switch. It's quite possible you have passed all rounds but will not be able to find a matching team. This is certainly not something desirable from your perspective but your recruiter is actually looking out for you. It is what it is.
E5 is the level. Yeah could be. I'm trying to figure it out. Thanks
Ok. I hear you. Joining a team without speaking with HM is not something you want to do, as that's extreme. However, when you do talk to one and sort of like the team, don't wait forever to say yes. Just like you are speaking with multiple teams, managers are doing the same and they'll say YES to the first person who checks the boxes.
Your recruiter was looking out for you, now they will not prioritize you for open roles.
One strike out? Brutal
What are your offer details ?
Oh so this is the Meta strategy now. They just tell you "your offer is approved, congratulations". But they don't tell you what it is. Only after you match a team will they give you the offer details, but they will make it exploding. It's 0 after 3 days (or 5 days). I have a feeling it will be a giant low ball, but I am still dancing with them.
wtf
Was hearing unmatch end up jeopardizing offers. Letting yiu know, its your call from this point
You mean take whatever you can?
There is way more supply than demand right now, if you have an opportunity to get any team, take it as quick as possible. Or even agree to the role while setting up a chat simultaneously. The headcount is there one day and gone the next, it’s pretty crazy at the moment, some people have been waiting months…
Yep now I know. The recruiter told me right now it's 800 people in the team matching AND the number is growing daily(?!?). I am not sure what the big strategy is, waste everyone's time, including their own engineers who do these interviews. Then put folks who passed them in a dead letter queue to rot there
everything is first come first serve now, too many people waiting to start after being laid off
