SWE at Meta looking to transition into and interview for SWE role at HFT/Market Making Trading companies (NYC/Chicago). I have 2 YOE and am an E4. Most of my experience has been in Full Stack ENG working with FB-technologies (Hack, React, Mobile) - so not too much transferable knowledge. Has anyone made this transition before? How did they prepare for the interviews besides LC (how to prep C++ past general proficiency, any other domain specific preparation). Looking for a path to prepare for this transition. Thanks! TC: 200 #swe #meta #optiver #jump #twosigma
I did the exact move. For 2sigma or Janestreet those more quantitative instead hft firms, c++ doesnt really matter. Their interview is just general coding plus lc type questions. For hft like hrt, jump, citsec, definitely need good c++ plus knowledge about OS and networking.
Thanks! Did you end up interviewing at the HFT places? If so, how did you prepare for the interviews that leaned in on C++/OS knowledge? Any particular resources?
yes, definitely go through a tour of c++, be familiar with all those c++ details. i also reviewed my college OS, network, architecture courses, also helpful
